A touring artwork, Museum of the Moon, has been unveiled at St Canice's Cathedral in Kilkenny.
The seven-metre spherical lunar installation, by acclaimed artist Luke Jerram, will be open to the public for an exclusive three-week exhibition, free with admission to St Canice's Cathedral.
The luminous artwork features detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface and is accompanied by a soundtrack created by BAFTA award-winning composer Dan Jones for an immersive sensory experience. The soundtrack combines music and spoken word from interviews and original recordings of the 1969 moon landings.
Museum of the Moon has been shown more than 300 times in 30 countries and experienced by more than 20 million people worldwide. St Canice's Cathedral invites guests of all ages to discover the wonders of the lunar landscape and all its secrets.
“I am delighted to be bringing my artwork to County Kilkenny for the first time," artist, Luke Jerram told the Kilkenny People." For most people, this will be their most intimate, personal and closest encounter they will ever have with the Moon, which is made even more special in the setting of the historic St Canice's Cathedral.”
Beneath Luke Jerram's Museum of the Moon, St Canice's Cathedral is set to host enchanting moonlit concerts, theatre and spoken word performances inspired by our closest celestial neighbour.
Museum of the Moon by Luke Jerram runs daily from March 10 to 29. The full programme of lunar-themed events is available https://www.
