Kilkenny street used as a 'rat run' local resident claims

Residents in a highly populated region of Kilkenny City have pleaded with the local authority to implement further safety measures to combat vehicles travelling at speed in or near housing estates which cause a danger to life.

Homeowners and renters in the Loughboy area have highlighted a number of black spots in the locality including; Ardnore adjacent to Nolan’s Gala, Sycamore Drive and Father Hayden Road.

One resident said cars used the street as a 'rat run', with public pressure forcing the reinstallation of ramps. Fianna Fáil councillor, John Coonan maintains a 'combination' of good driver behaviour and suitable road infrastructure are required in equal measure.

"Ramps make a noticeable difference," he said.

"It’s in everyone’s interests to be safe and that is by everyone playing their part and taking notice of signage on local roads."
