The Kilkenny City Bus
Fine Gael councillor, David FitzGerald has called for action on the delivery of a local park and ride service.
Speaking at last Friday’s sitting of the Kilkenny City Municipal District, the former mayor of the city suggested a pilot project be implemented as a step towards the delivery of multiple long term services in the city and its environs.
"While we have talked about it and said 'we should do it and it’s important' it actually hasn’t happened," Cllr FitzGerald said, adding, no plans have been presented at any council meetings.

"I believe Kilkenny with its bus service is now in a perfect position to have its park and ride service and I also believe there are a number of existing parking facilities already located on the edge of the city where we could set up a trial park and ride service which would then connect to the bus service.
"The purpose of this motion is that we simply do this trial," he continued, commenting, "I’m just concerned every six months we’ll talk about park and ride but yet nothing will happen."
Councillors unanimously supported the motion, with Cllr Eugene McGuinness agreeing a trial is necessary.
"We’re talking enough about it and some action has to be taken," he stated.
Senior Engineer, Stan Cullen, told members Kilkenny County Council is currently 'exploring' the matter, examining potential suitable local sites.
