Kilkenny County Council has imposed a temporary bathing prohibition at two popular swimming locations following the detection of elevated bacteria levels in recent water quality tests.
The affected sites are The Weir on Bleach Road and Bishops Meadows in Kilkenny City.
The measure comes on the advice of public health officials, who raised concerns over the potential health risks.

The council stated that further testing will be conducted to determine the source of the contamination. Both locations will remain closed to bathers until the water quality improves and is deemed safe for recreational use.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused,” the council added.
