Cllr Eugene McGuinness has warmly welcomed the introduction of new signage at Riverside Drive on the outskirts of the city which advise against caravan parking in the area.
Both Cllr McGuinness and Cllr Sean Ó hArgain have been vocal on the matter over many months, pressing for council action at meetings of the Kilkenny City Municipal District and behind the scenes.
Although, not under current By-Laws, Cllr McGuinness hopes the simple measure will eradicate parking in front of households.
The local independent also envisages apps and other online platforms used by caravan operators will inform them of the no parking signage.

"I don’t have any problem with camper vans in Kilkenny, but the fact is that Riverside Drive is not suitable for camper vans,” the local councillor said.
"If you park a camper van on Riverside Drive you will effectively block one if not two drives. That is what happens,” he continued.
Although not legally binding, the signage informs people of the unsuitability of parking in the estate.
"It's simply an advisory sign because we all know that the camper van community are very good when it comes to stuff like this," he commented, admitting he doesn’t see the need for further measures at present.
"It would want to become a very serious problem to go down the bylaws route because you know signs like that are a deterrent. The situation will be monitored," he added.
"When they see those signs they’re very, very seldom will park their van. They know that it’s not suitable," Mr McGuinness claimed, acknowledging the attraction for unaware camper van drivers was the nearby Linear Walk.
"There was also confusion because people who were trying to find the county hospital (St Luke’s General Hospital) and who didn’t know the area and were turning into Riverside Drive,” he continued, stating hospital signage has also been a welcome addition.
