Could new public transport options be on the cards for Kilkenny?

Cllr Sean Ó hArgain believes the introduction of new public transport measures are needed as soon as possible.

"We need to move ahead as quickly as possible with a park and stride and ride," he told the latest sitting of the Kilkenny City Municipal District.

"We must have a situation where the bus routes are directly connected to where people can park and come in from rural areas and either walk on, cycle on or connect with the public transport system," Cllr Ó hArgain continued, emphasising the need for such a system in the Waterford Road area where people are coming in ‘substantially’ from rural areas.

The Labour Party representative also touted the idea of making a bus stop available in the High Street area which would aid some older members of the locality who may have difficulty walking to the Market Yard.

In response, Senior Roads Engineer with Kilkenny County Council, Stan Cullen said this will be delivered under the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) process.
