ICYMI: Plans to expand Kilkenny bus service revealed for 2026

The matter was discussed as part of a wider traffic management plan at the most recent sitting of the Kilkenny City Municipal District
Kilkenny County Council has confirmed that new bus stop locations are being analysed with 'ambitious plans' for additional routes in the pipeline for a Park and Ride facility.
It's hoped eight new bus shelters will be erected in the city in 2026 subject to funding and approval from the NTA.
City-based councillors have been vocal advocates of the service, six years on from the introduction of the successful city bus operation.
Latest figures show 47% of the local population use the KK2 service, while 53% avail of KK1.
Previously, Cllr Sean Ó hArgain (Labour) argued action on the matter needed to be taken as quickly as possible.
A strategy has been agreed with the TII for a phased approach to implement active travel measures (cycling, walking options including a crossing) with the project currently at the options stage.
It’s understood that the leg of the scheme will be completed next year and a planning stage will begin.
