St Canice’s Cathedral and Kyteler's Inn, Kieran Street
Alice Kyteler was a fourteenth century woman who was tried for witchcraft after the death of her fourth husband in 1325. She is now said to appear on the stairs of St Canice’s Cathedral close to the western window. When accused, Kyteler managed to escape an angry mob and fled Kilkenny. The angry crowd however caught Kyteler's maid and executed her instead, possibly unaware of their mistake. The maid is now thought to haunt the site of Kyteler’s Inn on Kieran’s Street, near where she was burned at the stake for witchcraft.
