The entrance to the Good Shepherd Centre, Kilkenny
Seven people have taken up cold weather beds in the Good Shepherd Centre in Kilkenny in the last ten days, the Centre has confirmed.
Yesterday alone, two more people accessed the service.
"That's a total of 7 people in the last 10 days prevented from rough sleeping," according to a statement from the Good Shepherd Centre .
"As it's getting colder please encourage people you suspect are rough sleeping to access services," they added.
The increase in the number of rough sleepers on the streets of Kilkenny City was raised at a Joint Policing Committee meeting on Monday.
Acting CEO of Kilkenny County Council Sean McKeown said that there has been ‘a recent spike in rough sleeping’, adding that the housing department has been liasing with rough sleepers.
