Concern over possible 'sinkhole' in housing estate in Kilkenny

A local councillor has called on Kilkenny County Council to investigate what he describes as 'a sinkhole' appearing in a city housing scheme along with drainage issues that he believes are related.
Councillor Andrew McGuinness recently tabled a proposal asking Kilkenny County Council to take charge of Parcnagowan and to address the possible development of a sink hole in its large green area to the front of the scheme.
He also stated that some residents had experienced flooding during heavy rainfall and believes both issues may be connected.
Speaking at a recent meeting of Kilkenny City Municipal District, Cllr McGuinness, who is a resident in Parcnagowan, said that 'in recent years there has been a gradual dip in the green area at the front of Parcnagowan which has gotten so bad that many residents believe it’s a sink hole'.
"Some houses close to that area have experienced flooding and in one case substantial cracks have appeared in the floor," he said.
"It’s a beautiful estate, well maintained and I don’t believe there is an issue with the build quality but there is an issue with attenuation and water drainage towards the front of the scheme and I do believe that this requires the intervention of Kilkenny County Council which it can only do once it takes the scheme in charge.
"I’m asking Kilkenny County Council to speed up the taking in charge process and to engage with local residents, particularly those who have experienced flooding issues as a result of poor drainage and to deal with the potential sink hole.
"This was supported by all of the members of the City Municipal District so I look forward to a positive resolution to all of these issues and will continue to work on this until that happens."
