The incident occurred in Kilkenny city centre on Wednesday evening

Gardaí in Kilkenny took decisive action on Bateman Quay on Wednesday night after witnessing a potentially dangerous act.

At approximately 10.30pm, two children were spotted driving driving a scrambler with no lights on.

A 15 year old was steering, with a nine year old pillion passenger on board.

The pair had no helmets and were wearing shorts and flip flops.

“Seized under Section109a RTA and to be destroyed. Tragedy averted,” a garda spokesperson said.

Social media was awash with comments as local people reacted in shock and horror.

“Dear lord, well done an gardaí,” one user wrote.

Another added, “Seriously where are the parents, shame on them for their huge lack of parental responsibility.”

“Brilliant work. These things have become the scourge of society. Well done,” another commenter said.
