ONE of Kilkenny’s most popular people has added a national title to his growing ist of achievements. After an extremely entertaining evening of public speaking, Michael Somers, representing Kilkenny City Macra won the national Impromptu Public Speaking final in Meath on Saturday night.
The Coon man, who is well known in the theatrical world, won himself a place on the Macra Prize-winner’s foreign Trip next year as a result of his success. Mr. Basil Bayne from Harper Adams University College in the US attended and presented a new trophy for the competition, which was donated by the college.
He was wowed by Michael’s command of language and his ability to change the course of his discourse when needed. John Michael Fitzgerald, from Kilmoyley Macra, Kerry came second.
