A LOCAL student has won a bicycle for her effort in creating a poem and illustration about cycling safety.
Then-St John of God primary school pupil Eve Nolan was selected as the winner of a competition run by South East Cycling Safety, which runs cycling safety programmes in schools throughout the region.
The lessons focus on issues ranging from helmets to bike maintenance, skills and balance, plus road scenarios such has how to cycle through roundabouts. The company is the off-season venture of Kilkenny Cycling Tours.
Below is Eve’s winning poem:
Cycle Proud
Check the “M” check on your bike,
Cycle proud cycle right.
Starting point on your bike,
Cycle proud cycle right.
Make sure your brakes are not too tight
Cycle proud cycle right.
Put your gear on, make sure you’re bright
Cycle proud cycle right.
