ON THEIR first attempt at competing in the Leinster Boys tennis competition, the Kilkenny College under-16s came through a close final with St Mary’s Rathmines.

This match was played in Lansdowne Tennis Club with the backdrop of the Aviva Stadium and in blazing sunshine – a change from their earlier rounds played in the cold, wind and rain.

Having won their four group matches, the team beat St Killian’s in the semi-final before their big win in the final in front of parents and friends.

The Kilkenny Schools Girls’ Blitz also took place last month.

The annual event took place in Kilkenny tennis club, with 20 teams from four Kilkenny schools.

The Senior A event was won by Loreto with Kilkenny College in runners-up spot. In the B section, the roles were reversed with Kilkenny College taking the honours.
