Several hundred Santas, Mrs Claus, elves and reindeer are coming to town for this year’s Kilkenny Santa Run, which takes place on December 14.
The family-friendly event is a much anticipated start to the festive season, with over 400 people taking part last year. Participants must be dress as Santa or in festive attire.
“Along with our 5km fun run, we have added a 10km timed race to the programme this year to cater for those who want to squeeze in a personal best time before the year ends,” says organiser Roisin Hickey.
“We have also added a 10k Corporate Challenge that will give the winning company huge bragging rights for the next 12 months”. All the proceeds from the Santa Run go to charity. The money raised this year is going towards the Kilkenny Skatepark Campaign. Spokesperson from the campaign Mick Greene said the group was extremely thankful to Roisin and the Santa Run committee.
“This will make a significant difference in our campaign and will further increase the chances of an indoor skate park opening in 2014,” he said.To enter, visit www.runireland.com/active/all-events and look up Kilkenny Santa Run 5km and 10km. The entry fee for the 5km fun run is €5 for children, €10 for adults and €20 for families.
