AT 12 minutes past 12pm yesterday (12/12/12), a bell tolled 12 times in Kilkenny’s City Hall.
Each ring of the bell was accompanied by a moment of reflection – as part of a ‘day of light and hope’ to remember and encourage all those affected by cancer. Around 25 people gathered at the Tholsel for noon (some had gone to the Parade, but the event was moved due to rain).
The event was organised be the Cois Nore Cancer Support Centre, which is opening soon on Walkin Street. It began at 11am with a coffee morning in the Ormonde Hotel.
Mayor Sean O’ hArgain attended the ceremony, and bell ringer Larry Carroll did the honours. Bell ringing is a universal call and symbol across many different traditions around the world.
