IABA chief congratulates St Patrick’s

St Patrick’s Boxing Club received a congratularory phone call from IABA president Tommy Murphy, after recording a huge success at this year’s Kilkenny-Carlow-Laois Championships.

St Patrick’s Boxing Club received a congratularory phone call from IABA president Tommy Murphy, after recording a huge success at this year’s Kilkenny-Carlow-Laois Championships.

The local club took 15 titles at the competition in Paulstown last weekend, despite having only been back up and running for the past four months. Mr Murphy offered his full support to the reopening of St Patrick’s BC, having boxed in Kilkenny on two occasions himself.

Among the local winners at the championships were David Foley (Boy 1, 33kg), Donal O’ Leary (Boy 1, 36kg), Mathew Nozawk (Boy 2, 29kg), Jessie Dihllon (Boy 3, 42kg), Sean O’ Leary (Boy 3, 52kg), Martin Murray (Boy 3, 45kg), Robert Butler (Boy 3, 81kg), Kevin McQuillan (Boy 4, 52kg), Jack Woods (Youth 1, 45kg).

There were also a number of girls competing, including Saoirse Meaney (G1, 38kg), Rachel Owens (G3, 43kg), Courtney Kelly, (G3, 46kg). Intermediate men included Tommy Boyd (60kg), Richie Drennan (71kg), and Sean Connolly (85kg).

Boxing training countinues at the Watershed. Mondays 7pm-9pm, Thursdays, 7pm-9pm, or Saturdays, 11am-1pm.
