Four local businesses, Kilkenny Ormonde Leisure Club, Escape Health Club Newpark Hotel, The Watershed and the Spring Hill Court Hotel Leisure have joined with Cappagh Hospital Foundation, the fundraising arm of Cappagh National Orthopedic Hospital, on its latest national fundraising initiative, called Trifitness, to raise funds to develop a high quality sports rehabilitation gym that will enable Cappagh to support patients, from all sporting levels, disciplines and ages, get back to full health and active lifestyles.

Speaking at the launch, John Dennehy, Executive Director, Cappagh Hospital Foundation, said, “With Cappagh’s strong sporting therapy and reputation, we felt that this type of initiative was the perfect vehicle to help raise funds and awareness for the hospital and the work they undertake. We are delighted that the Kilkenny Ormonde Leisure Club, Escape Health Club Newpark Hotel, The Watershed and the Spring Hill Court Hotel Leisure have joined with CHF to help fundraise for this worthy cause. The Trifitness initiative is running for 10 weeks, from September to December, in conjunction with hundreds of sports associations, gyms and fitness centres across Ireland. We are urging people, at all levels of fitness, to join in, sign up and get fit by registering their Trifitness team at www.trifitness.ie. Trifitness is a unique, fun way to improve your fitness, health, mobility and wellbeing with friends or work colleagues, while at the same time raising funds for a worthy cause.”

Trifitness is a team event in which teams of three will compete in a series of interactive distance time trials of 10 minutes each on treadmill, rowing and cycling apparatus in order to qualify for the semi-final and finals, which will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2012, in DCU Sport. There is a strong emphasis on designated website interactivity, with a Live Online League Table and online training tips and advice from experts across nutrition, training, fitness and physiotherapy. Over the 10 week period, each Trifitness team will submit their five distance trial times to qualify for the semi-finals and finals. Each team’s distance is recorded and registered on the Trifitness website. In addition, dedicated training, fitness and overall health tips are provided by Trifitness experts on the website, including Paula Mee, nutrition consultant and presenter of RTE TV’s Health Squad programme; Vinny Mulvey, a specialist in Sports Massage and Remedial Therapy and an Irish international long distance runner and national champion for 10km track, half marathon, 10km cross country and 12km cross country; Dr. Siobhan Forman, Medical Specialist Registrar, Cappagh National Orthapedic Hospital, and Irish International Rower; Martina McCarthy, a strength and conditioning coach and High Performance Manager in DCU Sport; Tina Traynor, a Physiotherapy clinical specialist and professional training and coaching expert and Bryan Keane, one of Ireland’s best known and most successful triathletes.

Register your team by logging on to www.trifitness.ie and submitting the €75 online registration fee (€25 per person). Teams are then asked to raise a minimum of €300, or €100 per person, with all proceeds going to Cappagh Hospital Foundation. Closing date for registration is Monday, October 8, 2012. For more information or to find your local participating gym or fitness centre, log on to www.trifitness.ie or call 01 834 0325.”
