ONE of the county’s most popular field days is back by popular demand! Clara Family Fun Day this Sunday, May 27, is definitely not an event to be missed.
The family focused event in Clara’s safe and self-contained GAA Grounds begins at 1.30pm and features loads for the entire family to see and do. There’s everything from a wheel of fortune to a bottle stall, a barbecue to hurling and camogie games and loads for people of all ages to see and do
The event is run by Clara National School’s parents association and its chairperson, Marian Phelan, said she looks forward to the family-focused event. “We’ve not had a field day in Clara for several years and people from within and outside the community are thrilled to hear its back. We’ve brought back all the old favourites and added to the programme as well so the event has an even wider appeal.
“Hosting an event like this takes phenomenal voluntary effort and every cent raised will be ploughed back into the school. We’re very fortunate to have one of the best primary schools not only in the county but in the country and as a parents association, we’re proud to support and subsidise lots of the extra-curricular activities and improvements at our school,” she said.
The field day runs from 1.30 to 5pm. Among the key attractions are a monster barbecue hosted by local chefs, races, a raffle and peg board as well as the ever popular bottle, book and bag stalls. Those who fancy themselves as a bit of an Olympian can also try their hand at golf, sponge throwing and wellie throwing as well as bowls, football and getting a ball through a hoop.
Those with a steady hand can try to ‘Beat the Bleep’ while those with lightening fast hands are invited to try out sport stacking with Speed Stacks. And there’s no need to be hungry or thirsty throughout the afternoon as there’s a cake stall and teas tent as well as a shop, ice cream van and loads more.
