What a few days it has been for one of Kilkenny’s most famous families, the Fennellys from Ballyhale.

What a few days it has been for one of Kilkenny’s most famous families, the Fennellys from Ballyhale.

As Colin captained the Cats to national hurling league glory on the pitch on Sunday, his older brother Michael was not to be outdone, contributing two goals and three points with a Man of the Match-winning performance. But the following day, the family was celebrating yet again, as Lorna was officially crowned the Rose of Kilkenny.

Proud parents Michael and Margaret could only smile and applaud as they watched their daughter go up on stage to receive her sash from MC Brendan Hennessy, having seen off stiff competiton from nine other contestants. The 25-year-old will now go on to represent Kilkenny in the regional finals.

“I was thrilled, really surprised,” she told the Kilkenny People.

“And [Colin and Michael] were fantastic on Sunday. I didn’t really get to think about the competition until after the match. But I was delighted for them and it was a great few days for everyone.”

Days to savour and remember indeed for the family, capping off a great week in which eldest sister Grace had a baby as well. For full coverage and pictures of the Kilkenny Rose competition, see page 9.
