The trial of Kilkenny man John Joe Malone into the murder of pensioner, Nancy Smyth, is expected to last over three weeks.
A jury has been sworn in to hear evidence in the case which will start on Wednesday morning.
John Joseph Malone (53) is charged with the murder of widow Ann Nancy Smyth (79), at her home at Wolfe Tone Street on September 11, 1987.
Mr Malone of Newpark, Kilkenny pleaded not guilty, when arraigned before the Central Criminal Court this morning (Monday).
