A Kilkenny man was scammed out of his hard-earned savings following a phone scam earlier this week.
On Tuesday the injured party received a phone call from a withheld number. The person purported to be a member of staff from the man's bank. The fraudster told his unwitting victim that he would have to make two payments using a money transfer service, which the injured party did before realising that he was being scammed.
A garda spokesperson urged people to be 'fully understanding that they will never receive a call from a bank demanding them to make payments'. The garda also urged people to exercise caution when using their bank details online and to only deal with reputable websites.
