Kilkenny People of the Year awards will take place this evening at the Newpark Hotel

Unsung heroes who go the extra mile for the betterment of their local community will be formally recognised this evening at the Kilkenny People of the Year awards at the Newpark Hotel.

Popular broadcaster, Aonghus McAnally, will host the ceremony at the landmark hotel.

Category winners this year include: Vicky Phelan (Courage), Graignamanagh Town of Books (Tourism), Dominic Hayes (Community Engagement), Billy's Tea Rooms (Community Rejevenation), Kilkenny Civic Trust (Heritage), Seamus Quigley (Volunterrism) and Michael Somers (Rural Development).

The Hall of Fame award will be presented to the founding members of the No Name Club - Eddie Keher, Fr Tom Murphy and Eamon Doyle. 

The awards ceremony is also a fundraising event and proceeds this year will be donated to the Amber Women's Refuge. The overall winner will be announced shortly after 10pm this evening.
