Residents in Assumption Place have nowhere to park their cars, according to Cllr Andrew McGuinness. Cllr McGuinness put a motion down at Kilkenny Borough Council meeting demanding that the council resolve to provide parking spaces starting at 118 Assumption Place.
Cllr McGuinness said that residents were forced to park their cars on the grass verges in the estate as there was nowhere else to leave them.
Cllr Marie Fitzpatrick (Lab) agreed with Cllr McGuinness and added that during match days and other large event in the nearby Nolan Park cars are abandoned all over the estate.
Cllr Malcolm Noonan (Green) suggested that the council meet with the GAA County Board and investigate the feasibility of using a park-and-ride system from the nearby mart site during match days. Cllr Noonan said the park-and-ride system introduced in Waterford during the Tall Ships race had worked extremely well.
