Shop worker stabbed in Kilkenny City

A man was seriously injured as he attempted to thwart a robbery at a city centre shop in Kilkenny on Sunday evening.

A man was seriously injured as he attempted to thwart a robbery at a city centre shop in Kilkenny on Sunday evening.

The incident, which occurred at around 5.30pm is being investigated by Kilkenny gardai and two men have been arrested.

The employee at the mobile phone store was stabbed four times - once in the chest, twice in the arms and once in the hand - and is said to be in a stable condition at St Luke’s General Hospital, Kilkenny.

The two men arrested are being detained for questioning at Kilkenny Garda station. Gardai are appealing for witnesses and can be contacted at (056) 7775000.
