GPS for council fleet

ALL of Kilkenny County Council’s fleet will be fitted with global positioning systems in an effort to improve fleet security which have been procured by Wexford County Council.

ALL of Kilkenny County Council’s fleet will be fitted with global positioning systems in an effort to improve fleet security which have been procured by Wexford County Council.

Director of Services, John Mulholland said that the systems would be procured by Wexford County Council to achieve cost saving through economies of scale.

Cllr Catherine Connery (Fine Gael) said that the council should be doing more to insure that local businesses can benefit from the contracts offered by county councils. “Local business shouldn’t be forgotten. It is important to have a transparent procurement process but we also need to support local businesses,” said Cllr Connery.

Cllr Matt Doran (Fine Gael) said that he had been talking to two major sign manufacturers in the county who were disappointed that they hadn’t got contracts for recent road projects.

Cathaorleach of the Council, Paul Cuddihy said that many of the private contractors who were complaining about being overlooked for contracts had failed to get their tenders in on time.
