Thousands are expected to descend on the county as the Kilkenny Gospel Choir hosts the first Kilkenny International Gospel Choir Festival from August 30 to September 2.
The festival was officially launched by Arts Minister Jimmy Deenihan TD on Friday in Kilkenny Castle’s Parade Tower, including a performance by the Kilkenny Gospel Choir.
Over 30 gospel choirs are expected to travel to Kilkenny for the festival – some from as far away as the US, with many more coming to Kilkenny from closer to home. The choirs will partake in three days of musical and cultural activities with concerts and performances planned for venues across the city and county.
The visiting choirs will attend workshops, morning praise, cultural tours, evening concerts and more. The finale will culminate in a recital from all of the choirs in a performance planned for the Castle Park on the Sunday night.
