A KILKENNY outdoor activity business has been granted planning permission to add three camping pods for holiday-makers at its site just outside the city’s ring road.
Kilkenny County Council has recommended that permission be granted for the “three timber camping pods which are described in the application documents as being temporary timber igloo-like structures. ... Externally the units are beehive in form, clad in timber with a set of French doors to the front elevation. Internally there is a bed accommodation, light and heating facility.”
The site is located in the grounds of Archersgrove House on the city’s Bennettsbridge Road, the site of Team Dynamics Kilkenny, which “accommodates groups from various organisations and workplaces for a team-building experience.”
The camping pods are due to be located beside the facility’s changing rooms, which include showers and toilets.
In making its decision, the council cited an aim in the County Development Plan is “to encourage and assist development and tourist bodies in the provision of adequate recreational and tourism infrastructure and to further develop tourism-oriented facilities in the county.”
“The current proposal is considered to comply with the above policy,” the planners found.
They also noted that the site is within walking distance of the city.
Archersgrove House and its farmyard complex are protected structures, but the council found that “the proposed development will not impact negatively on the Protected Structures on site.”
