Kilkenny CBS Secondary School Choir will be joined by Galway-born singer-songwriter Julie Feeney for a concert in the Watergate on November 22 at 8pm.
Ms Feeney has arranged seven of her songs for a male voice choir, specially for the budding CBS choristers. These songs, which include “Love is a Tricky Thing” and “Impossibly Beautiful” all come from Julie’s album “Pages”.
The choir received the music in September and have been working diligently since then.
All of the rehearsal hours paid off, however, when Julie visited the school last Thursday and was very impressed with the enthusiasm and high standard achieved by the CBS boys.
Ms Feeney came to public prominence inn the mid-2000s, with her debut album ’13 Songs’.
Her forthcoming nationwide tour encompasses 10 venues with 10 respective local school and community choirs.
“We had to select 10 of the best choirs we could find, and that involved research into what they had done before, because this is definitely not a community music project, which would have had a totally different focus,” she says.
“Basically, I wanted to get choirs that are as professional as possible – they may not be run on a professional basis, and they may not actually be professional, but the idea is that I wanted to get them to sound as professional as possible.”
The whole school is looking forward to a great night of music and song on November 22 in the Watergate Theatre.
Tickets are €12/16 and are available at the Watergate ticket office. We wish all the boys, teacher Mandy Dowling, Catriona Evison and Lorraine Maher all the best in their preparations for their big night.
