Labour Party TD for Carlow and Kilkenny, Deputy Ann Phelan has welcomed the awarding of over €8.5million for road improvements and maintenance in Kilkenny under the Regional and Local Road Allocations.
‘This is great news for Kilkenny that these monies can be secured to make our road network better and safer’ said Deputy Phelan.
‘Some of the projects that will receive funding in Kilkenny is the R703 Coppenagh Cross- €251,000, the R700 The Quay Wall, Thomastown- €95,000 and the R697 Kells Road-€359,000.”
Low Cost Safety Improvements have been allocated €189,000, these would be carried on some of our regional and local roads.
The Restoration Maintenance allocations for this year remain high in terms of funding, with Restoration Improvements at €4.1m and Restoration Maintenance at €1.6m.
The Borough council has been allocated €349,000 for both maintenance and improvements.
‘This is a very welcome announcement by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport. There is no doubt that continued financial support for the purpose of repairing and upkeep of our regional and local roads, is vital.
