HOUSEHOLDERS in South Kilkenny and in particular, Mooncoin, are being urged to be extra vigilant following reports to Fine Gael TD John Paul Phelan that a bogus television reception salesman has been calling to homes in the region.
“I have been informed that a number of elderly householders in the area have been approached by a man claiming to be from Saorview. This is absolutely not the case. Anyone calling to your door claiming to be from a reputable company will always carry identification,” Deputy Phelan said.
“I would urge elderly members of the community in particular to be extra vigilant and not to let anyone they don’t know into their home. Everyone should always ask anyone purporting to be from a particular company to show their ID badge. If householders are suspicious, they should call the gardai at once. I would also encourage those living close to elderly or vulnerable people to be on the look-out for any suspicious activity, particularly on these long, dark evenings” Deputy Phelan said.
