FIREMEN from Graignamanagh under the guidance of station officer, Eamon Doyle spent nine hours bringing a gorse fire on picturesque Brandon Hill, Graignamanagh under control at the weekend writes Sean Keane.

It was just before midnight on Saturday when the crews from Graignamanagh and Thomastown along with four forestry workers finally managed to quench the fire started deliberately on Co Kilkenny’s highest peak after the Coillte plantation there was placed under threat. The crews, each made up of nine men, attended the scene from around 3pm on Saturday after the flames got out of control. No one was injured.
