Recycling bins are full to capacity at a number of locations around the city.
A spokesman for Kilkenny County Council said that he expected the service to be ‘back to normal’ over the coming days and urged people to hold onto their recycling or to use the facilities at the civic amenity site at Dunmore.
“There was an excessive demand over Christmas and the bins were under huge pressure. Rehab Glasco provide the collection service and we have made their aware of a number of bins which are full and they will be collected over the next day or two.
“In the meantime we would ask people to hold onto their recycling or to use the facilities at Dunmore,” he said.
There are 43 Bring Sites around the city and county.
In 2013 1542 tonnes of glass was recycles and 100 tonnes of cans.
