Paddy Friel will be buried tomorrow

THE death has occurred on Patricia (Paddy) Friel. The 55-year-old was a former Superintendent of Kilkenny Castle and was also in charge of a number of other OPW run sites in Kilkenny and the surrounding counties. A daughter of one of Ireland’s greatest living playwrights, Brian Friel, she arrived in Kilkenny in the 1980s to take over a castle in much need of work and left it one of the most beautifully restored buildings in the country. Her remains will repose at her home at Patrick’s gate, Outrath road, Kilkenny with prayers on Wednesday morning at 11am followed by removal to St Fiacre’s Church, Loughboy, Kilkenny for Mass at noon. Funeral afterwards to Foulkstown Cemetery.

Paddy is survived by her children Owen and Chrissie; parents Brian and Anne; sisters Mary, Sally, Judy; brother David; nieces and nephews, Daithi, Barney, Cassie and Annie Rose, Eimer, Brian, Megan and Teddy, sister-in-law, brothers-in-law, other relatives and many friends.
