Gardaí say they are carrying out a “routine search” in a remote area of West Wicklow close to where convicted rapist and attempted murderer Larry Murphy was arrested 12 years ago.
A woman whom he had raped and abducted was found nearby, tied up in the boot of his car. Murphy was subsequently sentenced to 15 years in prison and released in August of 2010.
Gardaí are remaining tight-lipped on reports that they are looking for the remains of Jo Jo Dullard, the Callan woman who went missing in the Moone-Castledermot area after thumbing home from Dublin on the night of November 9, 1995. It is believed they may be acting on information recently provided to them.
Around 20 officers from the divisional search units are searching a hunting lodge and the surrounding private lands around Baltinglass. The search is understood to be concentrating on an area close to a privately built hunting lodge.
Jo Jo’s sister Mary believes that gardaí should be looking in another part of Wicklow for the person who abducted her sister. “We asked that farm land be searched and it never was and I remain convinced that the person who took Jo Jo is known to the gardaí,” she said from her Callan home.
