LATEST investigations in to the tragic death of Siobhain Stapleton (51) from Kilfane, Thomastown suggest the woman was attacked with a ‘hand held tool.’

Gardai are continuing the investigation into the murder of the mother of five, who died en route to a Dublin hospital following an attack at her home outside Thomastown on Friday afternoon last.

It is understood that a hand held tool was used by the killer.

Detectives are following a definite line of enquiry and they are still seeking the public’s assistance to rule out various theories.

It is not expected that any arrests will be made in the case until after Mrs Stapleton’s funeral Mass tomorrow (Tuesday).

An incident room has been set up in Thomastown garda station and officers are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything of a suspicious nature or unusual behaviour in and around the murder area between 1pm and 1:45pm on Friday to contact them. Gardai in Thomastown can be contacted on (056) 7754150 or on the Garda Confidential line at 1800 666 111.
