PEOPLE are being urged to be extra vigiliant following a burglary where a bogus caller gained entry to a house posing as a council worker.
A number of houses in the city have been targeted in recent days by the rogue callers. On one occasion, two men told a resident that they had been called out to check to see if the water pipes were frozen and on another occasion they told the householder that they wanted to check the water levels.
“We are urging people to look for proper identification and if they are not happy to close the door and call the gardai. In recent times the people have posed as councul workers but they can pose as any type of utility service personnel,” added a garda spokesman.
The men managed to gain entry by duping one householder. After they gained entry one of the duo distracted the resident while the second man managed to search the house and steal a quantity of cash.
Anyone with information is asked to call Kilkenny gardai on (056) 777 5000.
