€750,000 has been approved by the NRA to facilitate the removal of a series of bad bends on the N78 at Damerstown, / Julianstown which have been the scene of several accidents over the years.

Cllr. Maurice Shortall says interim safety measures which included reduced speed limits and anti skid surfaces have been beneficial but the realignment is the culmination of numerous representations to both Kilkenny County Council and the National Roads Authority.

“In addition to the proposed works the LP 1844 access road to Muckalee will also benefit from substantially improved sight visibility. The N78 realignment commences at Damerstown West for an overall length of approximately 1 km. Preliminary discussions have commenced with affected landowners.” said Cllr. Shortall.
