‘Wait until the College Road works are finished before judging their merits,’ a Kilkenny County Council official has urged.
Director of services John Mulholland also said that the new layout of pavements abutting the footpaths are only to accommodate cyclists, and not for the addition of parking meters.
With St Kieran’s College located on the road and other students travelling that way to school, the addition of cycle lanes will hopefully encourage younger cyclists, he said at a meeting of the council’s committee on transportation and infrastructure.
“Wait until the complete scheme is finished” before judging it, Mr Mulholland urged.
The work is being funded as part of a €410,000 grant that the council received under the Government’s Smarter Travel initiative.
