The Belgian Ambassador Robert Devriese is to open the Hans Op de Beeck exhibition on Saturday in the Butler Gallery, while as part of this year’s Kilkenny Arts Festival, the British Ambassador to Ireland Dominick Chilcott will visit to attend a number of events.

He will be in attendance for the opening of Kilkenny Arts Festival at the Pembroke Hotel at on Friday, August 10. Accompanied by Mayor Sean O’ hArgain, the ambassador will then attend a production of Shakespeare’s ‘As You Like It’ in the Castle Yard at Kilkenny Design Centre.

“I am really looking forward to returning to Kilkenny and being able to take part in the opening of the arts festival,” said Ambassador Chilcott, who was appointed to his current position in April.

Mayor O’ hArgain welcomed the ambassador, and said it was further proof of the cultural bonds that exist between Ireland and Great Britain.

“I’m also thrilled that the Globe Theatre have chosen Kilkenny as the venue for their historic first Irish performance and I congratulate festival director Rosemary Collier and her team for this groundbreaking addition to the festival programme,” he said.
