March 5 opening for latest section of Linear Park in city

The latest section of the River Nore Linear Park in the city including a new boardwalk is due to be officially opened on March 5.

The news was announced by Kilkenny County Council chairman Paul Cuddihy at Monday’s council meeting, with the chairman praising the “wonderful achievement” of progressing the park along the river. The aim is that it will eventually span all the way from the Laois border to Inistioge.

“It is a safe place to walk, it is away from cars and it is away from noise,” he said, and is most welcome despite any “teething problems” it may have had along the way.

As the idea for a linear park was inspired by essayist Hubert Butler, the daughter of the celebrated Kilkenny man is being invited to the official opening, Cllr Cuddihy said.

“It is a good day and it is a good occasion,” Cllr Cuddihy said.
