Latest construction index figures, measuring submitted planning applications and planning commencements. show a slowdown in construction in Kilkenny.
The National Housing Construction index has shown the continued drop in construction activity. Researchers have produced the National Housing Construction Index which examines every housing construction Planning Applications and Planning Commencements throughout the months of January through to June 2012. The index gives a direct comparison with the exact same period in 2011.
The research shows that from January to June 2012, 163 planning applications were submitted in Kilkenny. This compared to 196 in 2011 resulting in a drop of 17%. Kilkenny also saw a small decrease in the number of Commencement Notices issued from 91 down to 87, a drop of 4%. Meanwhile 30 new housing units were commenced in the first four months of 2012 in Kilkenny, according to new statistics released by the Construction Industry Federation (CIF). This represents a decrease of 34 units or 53% on the same period during 2011, when work began on 64 new units, according to the CIF’s latest Housing Statistics Bulletin.
