The Chinese region with which Kilkenny is twinned has sent a gift of artwork to Kilkenny.
County manager Joe Crockett presented the gifts at the council’s December meeting, noting that the Suzhou region is “a place famous for its art and its silk. It is the centre of the silk industry in China.”
The hand-woven and embroidered artwork is a return gift following a presentation of Nicholas Mosse pottery to the mayor of Suzhou when a Kilkenny delegation visited China in the autumn.
The Chinese gifts also included a silk piece depicting the Suzhou Gardens, the biggest tourist attraction in the area, in the centre of which is the Tiger Hill Pagoda.
“It is appropriate that the Cats of Kilkenny should link with the tigers of Suzhou,” Mr Crockett said.
