Council stocked up for winter weather

Kilkenny County Council is “very well prepared for any onslaught of winter weather” with reserves of salt supplies and funding to purchase another gritter to treat local roads, the council heard at its monthly meeting.

The council currently has 1,200 tonnes of salt available, described by director of services John Mulholland as “quite a stockpile of salt.”

In recent weeks the council was allocated funding for the purchase of another gritter, which will be deployed in the south of the county, Mr Mulholland told the council.

“We are covered to a very satisfactory level,” he said.
