Former Kilkenny College student and rugby star Robin Copeland looks set to sign a deal to play for Munster next year.
The explosive back-row forward has had huge success with Cardiff Blues in recent months, and has won plaudits from pundits on both sides of the water. Munster fans and fans of Irish rugby generally would relish the prospect of seeing Copeland seeking a place in a pack that includes the likes of Peter O’ Mahony and Paul O’ Connell.
The 26-year-old honed his skills in the backline for Kilkenny College during his schoolboy days, and still has the deft handling ability and pace of a centre. Coupled with his size and raw physicality, he meets all the requirements of a modern number eight.
Two years spent packing down beside Lions captain Sam Warburton at Cardiff has added greatly to his experience and knowledge. He has also thrived in the big matches, including a Man of the Match performance in the Heineken Cup against Toulon.
