The girls of Loreto Kilkenny stormed their way to victory in the Leinster u-17 soccer semi-final, beating Coláiste Bríd Enniscorthy 8-1 on a cold Tuesday afternoon
in January.

They got off to a flying start when Jenny Clifford scored the first goal. It was created by Laura Greene who sent a high ball in to Jenny who controlled it
and drove it into the back of the net.

The second goal came not long afterwards. A brilliant through ball by
midfieler Roisín Breen was met by Laura Murphy who hit the ball into
the top corner.

The third goal came mid way through the first half. A fine pass out of defence by Kirsty Maher to Olivia Nolan whose first effort was saved but finished with
the rebound.

Loreto’s fourth goal came early in the second half, when Laura Murphy gave the ball out wide to Olivia Nolan who then skipped past the two defenders before smashing a 25-yard rocket to
the back of the net.

Coláiste Bríd hit back with a goal, but it wasn’t long before Loreto gained control again when Jenny Clifford ran the line and gave a pass into the brilliant Laura Murphy who glanced the ball into the top right hand corner of the net. She soon got her hat-trick after the referee had played a great advantage.

Soon after Loreto Captain Laura Murphy was back again, getting her fourth goal of the match by putting her head on the end of a brilliant cross in from Aoife Cantwell, to cap an outstanding
individual display.

Loreto kept up their intensity to the final whistle and Jenny Clifford had three shots on goal and was unlucky not to score but finally the ball fell to Aoife Cantwell, who put the icing on the cake and scored the eighth and final goal of the game, finishing with a
score of 8-1.
