GARDAI on patrol in Ballyragget foiled a break in at a supermarket in the early hours of Monday morning.

GARDAI on patrol in Ballyragget foiled a break in at a supermarket in the early hours of Monday morning.

The two members, attached to Castlecomer Garda Station were on patrol when they observed suspicious activity and disturbed burglars who were inside a local supermarket.

The three men challenged the gardai before making off in a silver Audi.

They stopped at Fair Green, Ballyragget and threw bricks at the patrol car, damaging the car. Fortunately no gardai were
injured.

The men sped off and gardai gave chase before losing them at Byrnesgrove, Ballyragget.

Gardai are appealing to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area to contact them on 056 772 22 22.

The incident happened just days after the closure of Ballyragget Garda Station sparking outcry in the local community that the closure will lead to an increase in crime in the area.
