Mrs Ryan (née Madden) was born in Menlough Co Galway and had three sisters and one brother. She moved to Kilkenny in 1943 and married Richard Ryan and the couple lived on the Dublin Road. The following year their eldest son Richard was born and a few years later the family moved to Banim Terrace and then onto the present family home at Greenfields.
Ryans Electrical on High Street was founded 70 years ago and still remains very much a family business with Anne and Martin at the helm.
Josephine was well known as she had worked in the shop for over 20 years. She was also involved in charity work, mainly the Soroptimists. She was also a regular Mass goer at The Friary as well as St Canice’s and Fr Jim Murphy, who celebrated her funeral Mass was a close friend who visited her in her latter years when she was confined to her home.
However Jo will be remembered first and foremost as a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Family and friends travelled from afar to pay tribute to this wonderful woman who led a fulfilled and honest life.
Her funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday 7 July at St Canice’s Church and she was laid to rest in the family grave at St Kieran’s Cemetery.
