GARDAI are investigating a break in at the Presentation Secondary School in Loughboy in the early hours of Friday morning, during which masked raiders ransacked the school and got away with a quantity of cash.
A number of lockers were also broken into during the incident, and there was property damage in several offices and the canteen. It is believed that the culprits forced in a rear door to gain entry to the school.
Some of the money stolen from the school’s safe had been put aside for a school tour later on in the year.
“It was well-planned, so the professional nature of it is a little concerning,” said Principal Shane Hallahan.
“It is very disappointing but thankfully no one was hurt. I would like to thank the Gardai for all their assistance, and also to everyone in the community for showing their support.”
The incident took place between midnight on Thursday and 7am on Friday morning. Gardai carried out a scene of crime examination and are appealing for witnesses.
Anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area is asked to contact Kilkenny Gardai on 056-7722222.
