Kit’s National innovation award for Kilkenny’s Colaiste Pobail Osraí students

THREE students from Kilkenny’s Colaiste Pobail Osraí picked up a prestigious national award yesterday at the National Final of the Student Enterprise Awards in Croke Park, Dublin.

THREE students from Kilkenny’s Colaiste Pobail Osraí picked up a prestigious national award yesterday at the National Final of the Student Enterprise Awards in Croke Park, Dublin.

Get the Kit was awarded The Intellectual Property Award 2013 presented by The Patents Office. The students, Éabha Ní Shluain, Gwyenth Nic Aidicín Ní Loinsigh and Katie Ní Fhaoileáin completed an Intellectual Property (IP) Report along with their business plan demonstrating their awareness, understanding and inclusion of IP in their business and business planning. The judges at the National Final were very impressed by their strong branding, attractive packaging and awareness of logo copyright in the junior award category.

The idea behind the business wasand is to create a kit for every occasion. The products include ‘Get the Kit-Sleepover’ and ‘Get the Kit- Hot Chocolate’ which were a huge success over Christmas.

These kits were sold at Christmas Markets and also stocked in The Book Centre, High Street and The Butterslip, Rose Inn Street in Kilkenny city. The girls continued with their entrepreneurial skills and on Sunday at Cher Pierre, Parliament Street, Kilkenny they launched their new product ‘Get the Kit – Study Kit’. ‘

The awards provide second-level students all across Ireland the opportunity to set up and run their own business. This year over 83 companies were selected to participate in the National Finals. Colaiste Pobail Osraí represented Kilkenny in the Junior and Intermediate categories after winning the regional finals held in the Newpark hotel on Thursday, March 7.
